External Resorption

This 24-year-old patient used to come in regularly for routine dental visits and very rarely needed much dental work. However, she let three years lapse and came in with a toothache on her lower right second molar. Upon radiographic exam the tooth showed a condition called external resorption that had penetrated to the nerve in the tooth. The tooth in all likelyhood will have to be extracted, an implant placed, and a crown placed on the implant.

Had the patient come in regularly, this problem could have most likely been addressed with a simple restoration.
